What a day! We started with a lecture about Mozart, Schubert and Johann Strauss given by the principal flautist of the Vienna Philharmonic and his wife, not only a talented flautist but also a music historian. Along with the in depth review of the history of the famous composers we had the opportunity to hear their music played by these talented artists.
Next, on to the Schönbrunn Castle, the summer residence of the Habsburg family.
We had free time after that to immerse ourselves in the city of Vienna. Lunch at a cafe and dessert at the famous Sacher Hotel, the birthplace of the Sacher torte, delicious!
A visit to the beautiful Volksgarten with its many varied roses was on our itinerary and then we had a farewell dinner at a great local restaurant.
Tomorrow, on to Prague.
BTW-just to show that there really is a mix of new among the old in Vienna:
You may be able to find an extension from near the top of the tower. It is a platform for budgie jumping!
