Day ten

June 16, 2013

This morning we toured the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Museum of Fine Art. The Habsburg rulers collected this art during the 600 years that they ruled the Holy Roman Empire. The photos represent a minuscule amount of the fantastic collection.

Lunch was at the famous Café Central, a historic spot, often a meeting point for Europe’s intellectuals and artists.

In the afternoon we visited the Vienna suburb of Penzing to see the Art Nouveau Steinhof Church, created by Adolfo Loos and Otto Wagner.

This is arguably the most important piece in the entire collection. Made of hollow gold inlaid with semiprecious stones it took six years to make. The Salt Cellar
