Day 11 - Hue
Hue was the ancient capital. It is famous for The Citadel and the Perfume River. We took a boat cruise up the river on a dragon boat and saw an historic pagoda, visited The Citadel and had a vegetarian lunch at a monastary populated only by female monks. Dinner was at the home of a princess.
The hotel was designed by the same man as the Imperial King's palace

The dragonboat

A floating village on the Perfume River

Since this was about half way through the trip, we had our laundry done

This pagoda was built about 400 years ago

The Perfume River

The Citadel was built by the ancient kings.
It suffered major damage during "The American War"

The monks served us lunch and sang some songs

The lunch was strictly vegetarian and delicious

In the garden

Here the local women are making incense sticks and straw hats

These are the raw bamboo sticks

You can see the design inside the layers of the straw

This monk founded an orphanage about 20 years ago and has about 200 children aged 6 months to 19 years old.
